Hatha Yoga Classes Taught by Susan

Current Yoga Class Schedule
Park District of Franklin Park:

Beginner's Gentle Hatha Yoga

Foundational hatha classes for those who have never practiced yoga.  Also for anyone preferring a less vigorous, less physically demanding style.  Each class begins with a slow warm-up and gentle stretching.  A variety of lying and seated mat and simple standing poses are taught to increase strength, flexibility and body awareness.  Emphasis is on proper breathing, on mindful coordination of breath with movement, and on enjoying the experience!  Postures are modified for any students with limited range of motion due to previous injury, surgery, or lack of activity.

This class is offered on both
Tuesday and Thursday

10:00 - 11:15 am

Restorative Flow Yoga

Monday
9:15 – 10:30 am.

This class will
NOT meet for
Summer Session II:
July 19 thru
August 16.

Class will resume
for a 6-week session
Monday,
September 13.

Restorative Flow
is a luxurious yoga practice
with movements that are sometimes slow and gentle,
always mindful and deliberate,
and at the same time
exhilarating and energizing.

One pose flows seamlessly into the next
in a relaxing continuum that
opens and lengthens the body while
calming and focusing the mind.
Breath meditation is incorporated into the class to
develop concentration and awareness.
For all levels; beginners welcome.

And FYI -- Restorative Flow classes differ from “restorative poses” in that the class is a continuous gentle flow from one posture into the next. There is no stopping to gather props, to situate yourself in a pose, or to have the help of another person to position you in the pose.

Classes are held at
The Body/Mind Studio at
Dole Learning Center,
255 Augusta Street,
Oak Park

You may call OPPD directly at Dole to register for a class:  708.848.7050. You can also register at the main office in person: 218 W. Madison Street, OP, or at Dole Center in person: 255 Augusta Street, OP. You can also register online at www.oakparkparks.com.  From the Home Page, select "Programs", then "Adult Programming", and finally "Yoga" for a complete listing of yoga classes.  You can then go back to the Registration page for an online option.

I learned Restorative Flow from Donna Belk (pictured at left), who created this lovely style and teaches it in the Austin, Texas area.  Studying with Donna was one of the highlights of my Hatha teacher training; she is a beautiful soul and a jewel of a teacher.  I can still hear her soft voice encouraging us in her class: "You can't do it wrong . . . you can't do it wrong . . . "

May I transmit that compassionate acceptance to those who take Restorative Flow classes with me.
